Last cake class...moving on

>> Friday, April 30, 2010

I don't know if this entry can still count for today since its almost 1am.Technically its not today its tomorrow...Wow, I'm confusing myself. Anyway...I'm going to make this short and sweet.

Tonight was my last cake decorating class and received my Wilton's course 1 Certificate! Can I get a woot woot? Tonight went pretty good, we learned the third part to making a rose. I thought my roses kinda looked a little more like carnations than a roses. Regardless, I did it, I made flowers that resemble roses and decorated my last cake for this course. I'm looking forward to practicing what I've learned and trying new things at home. I don't think I will sign up for another class at this time because I have so much going on right now!

It turned out okay. I feel like I would've done a lot better if I wasn't so rushed on time we only had like 35 minutes to decorate it, which sounds like a decent amount of time, but it did not feel like it. I like the color green I created but I'm not sure I'm crazy about the brown dots on the side. Emma told me it looked like dog food, thanks Emma, I was thinking Jr. mints. Eh, well, it is what it is. Now its time to keep practicing!

Well I should probably make my way to bed. We are in desperate need of groceries and I think we will head to the farmers market in the morning. I will leave you with a few of Cadence's photos from the farmers market. I feel so blessed to have the market within walking distance of our home!

I am a foodie.... its true. I love and appreciate amazing food. Not just the taste, but the beauty of it. You know what they say, we eat with our eyes first. I can pour over food blogs for hours and hours drooling over beautiful pictures of fresh ingredients perfectly paired that tempt my tastebuds and send me racing for my Kitchen Aide.

I dream of owning my own cafe/coffee shop filled with aromas of freshly roasted coffee and buttery croissants. This dream lead me to tour Le Cordon Bleu's patisserie and baking program a couple months ago. I was really excited and signed up for their 9 month certificate program. After discussing it with the hubby and a few friends I decided now is probably not the right time to take on this kind of commitment. Everything in me wanted to just go for it, but there was that voice of reason saying,"Your gonna be stressed if you do this." Between homeschooling and volunteering with the youth group not to mention all the other daily duties of being a mom and wife I know my plate is just too full right now. I am actually okay with it. I know I am still young and have plenty of time to go to school later if it is still in my heart to do so down the road.

For now....drum roll please... do not laugh and mock me as some of my friends did, I wont mention names. I am taking some cake decorating classes at Joann Fabrics. It is a Wilton's cake decorating class. Ya I know I know...its a far cry from Le Cordon Bleu. However I'm not gonna lie, Ive learned a few tips and tricks that will definitely come in handy. I do have to say though the frosting recipes are enough to make me gag and everyone in the class is into box cake mixes. What's that? Oh well I think its been a good experience. My final class is tomorrow night and I'm contemplating whether or not I want to take the next course or just continue learning on my own. Here is a picture of my cake from last week.

So, this is my third attempt at blogging. I really love blogs, never thought I would, and have found myself following some amazingly talented people with very beautiful blogs. Since I'm so inspired I decided to give it another go! My blogs in the past were more specialized and I think I'm too multi-faceted to limit myself to one topic. Let's face it, I like to have my hand in a million different things.

Here I will share with you my vintage finds, some of which you can purchase on my etsy store: http://www.etsy.com/shop/awaywegoclementine . As well as my cooking and baking adventures. I will be bragging on my family, and showing off their talents! I will also keep you posted on my gardening & home decor projects.

Welp! Sounds like a plan, wish me luck, and check back often!
